ENVIROMENTAL POLICY: The hotel owner is Zanzibari and has always wanted to preserve his islands rich natural surroundings and hence the hotel was built and is run with a keen regard for the environment and its impact on the surrounding area.
As well as employing a large number of local staff and bringing money in to the surrounding area, the hotel has a list of day –to-day operations to support the environment:
- CFC’s – All refrigerators and air conditioners are built according to EU regulations regarding CFC’s and other ozone harming gases
- Utilities - All electrical and plumbing works are built according to EU appropriate regulations
- Energy Saving – The hotel uses a variety of energy saving features including low voltage bulbs
- Rubbish Removal – All rubbish is separated at source with much of the compostable waste being turned to fertilizer for use on the hotel grounds.
- Sound Pollution – Should the power fail a stand by generator provides power to the hotel, this is enclosed in a soundproof structure to reduce noise levels to less than 70dBa at 1 meter.
HEALTH: The air of Zanzibar is as fresh and healthy as can be found anywhere.
Mosquito's are rarely to be found in beach front hotel facilities but as Malaria does exist on the island.
It is advisable to consult your doctor about preventative measures.
SAFETY: When visiting Stone Town you are advised to wear sensible clothing as a mark of respect to the local population and to protect you from the sun. It is vital that you take care of your skin as the sun can be stronger than it seems.
Do not wear expensive jewellery away from the hotel and do not wander round in unlit areas at night. Zanzibar is a very safe place but like anywhere else do not expose yourself to unnecessary risk particularly in regard to petty theft.
